This course continues the focus on the expansion of academic and multiword vocabulary through communication-oriented readings. Students begin to master academic word-lists from the 3,000 high frequency band, their word families, and common collocations. The embedding of the target vocabulary in the selected texts allows for meaningful introductions. Learners expand their proficiency in reading strategies, in practical and academic context with an emphasis on progressing with their critical thinking skills. Students begin developing the skill to choose the best word for a particular situation through discussions of thematic readings and the synthesizing of information.

Students spend the class period working on reading comprehension activities and vocabulary enhancement activities.
