This course focuses on expansion in academic writing. Students in Level III will gain skills in both practical and academic writing, with a special emphasis on longer compositions. Level III expands students’ exposure to both familiar and challenging content with an aim toward preparing students for more advanced academic and practical tasks using a variety of grammatical and sentence structures. Students will expand the writing process from paragraph to essay while applying key Level III concepts.

Students spend class periods reading example texts, dissecting the structure of texts (such as by outlining), doing writing exercises (such as writing a topic sentence for a paragraph), doing grammar and editing exercises, preparing outlines for their own writing, and writing paragraphs.

Successful completion of Writing III with a 60% or higher

Usually, students work independently or in pairs during class time, with the teacher circulating and giving help and feedback as needed. Students get a score for every classwork assignment, writing assignment, and test.
